LIVING in the city can take its toll on your mind, body and even spirit. Which is why it is always a good idea to take a short break to restore yourself every now and then.
And that is where a staycation comes into play.
So, just what is a staycation? Well, it is essentially a holiday taken locally, which usually includes day trips or weekend getaways.
Fortunately for us, there has been a bit of a boom recently in terms of places for staycations in and around Kuala Lumpur. Let’s look at a few of these great options to convince you that it’s time for that perfect, short trip.
Sekeping Serendah has garnered loads of fans over the years due to its minimalistic architectural designs which seamlessly blend in with its surrounding nature.
Nestled beautifully in the town of Serendah about an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur, it’s a favourite retreat among KL-ites looking to unwind for the weekend or even attend wellness retreats.
There are two Orang Asli villages and a waterfall nearby as well as swimming pools within the vicinity of the property. You can also do a bit of jungle trekking and a round of golf at the Serendah Golf Resort nearby.
Amenities include a full-working kitchen, coffee tables, barbecue facilities and mosquito nets for your beds. It’s advisable to bring your own food, which you can store in the refrigerator provided, or even make arrangements with the caretakers beforehand.
All in all, Sekeping Serendah is a great way to disconnect from city life and find some much-needed time in nature with friends and family.
Templer Park Rainforest Retreat
When you think of Rawang, a retreat in a rainforest is not something that would naturally come to mind. But, that’s just what you get at this beautiful retreat with views of the Kanching Rainforest Reserve.
This is a great place to take the entire family or a group of friends (or both!) for a wonderful staycation. Not only is there an infinity pool, there’s also a fishing pond, barbecue facilities, WiFi and a golf course. Needless to say, everybody will find something fun to do on this sprawling private property.
Even though this retreat is only 30 minutes away from Kuala Lumpur, you’ll be amazed by the beautiful nature that surrounds you. So, do prepare yourself for some wonderful walks and sights of birds, monkeys and fireflies.
Glass House At 325, Janda Baik
Located in the small town of Janda Baik, Pahang, and about an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur, this is another place that boasts stunning views of nature. It is also a wonderful space for you and your loved ones to relax and unwind.
To think that there is a waterfall nearby with picturesque views of the surrounding hills would be enough to convince anyone to head out to this stunning property. Oh, and you’ll be able to cook up a storm in the well-equipped kitchen, too.
Plus, there are housekeepers on hand to help, if and when needed.
Eight Acres, Raub
Heading out to Eight Acres in Raub, Pahang, is an adventure in itself – thanks to its uneven off-road leading in from the highway (a short one, thankfully).
Let that not deter you though, as the hosts are very welcoming and the property is beautifully managed and taken care of. There’s plenty to do with a waterfall nearby, a pond right outside, a barbecue area, ATV (all-terrain vehicle) rides, bicycle trails to discover, and many more.
The themed rooms at The Brick House also make it a fun experience – the one covered in a beautiful blue world map from wall to floor is a personal favourite (Geography Room). Another fun one is the Surreality Room, clearly an ode to Salvador Dali with its red lip-shaped couch and super luxurious gold-tiled bathroom.
There is a lot to love when it comes to this eco-friendly resort – the effort to educate visitors on recycling, an easy and wonderful connection with nature, and encouraging some much-needed bonding time over fun board games.
After awhile, you may even forget about the need to get online and look forward to enjoying the fantastic space around you.
Colonie1232, Fraser’s Hill
Fraser’s Hill, Pahang, is synonymous with cool temperatures and natural surroundings. A nice two-hour drive away from Kuala Lumpur, it is a great way to indulge in some hiking, golfing and even bird-watching.
There are several hiking trails to choose from and even a waterfall to head out to. And what better way to treat yourself after all that strenuous exercise, than some scrumptious, warm scones served up for teatime at Ye Olde Smokehouse.
A lovely space to try out in Fraser’s Hill is Colonie1232 – a private rental space that is spacious, quiet, clean and big enough to accommodate eight people.
Enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the many activities at Fraser’s Hill that are within walking distance of this lovely property.
We are blessed to live in a country where we can head out to a lovely retreat in nature at the drop of a hat. With a little bit of planning and research, there is much to discover beyond our cities.
Go ahead and enjoy some much-deserved staycation time.
Beautiftul nature, and some peace and quiet awaits.
