TCM: Mind, Body, Health for Elderly

THE Aged Care Group (ACG), in collaboration with Utar (Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman), is organising a public talk on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), focusing on elderly mental and physical health.

Entitled “TCM: Mind, Body, Health for Elderly”, it will be held on April 11, 2015, at 1pm at the Utar Sungai Long campus (Lecture Hall 1), Jalan Sungai Long, Bandar Sungai Long, Cheras, 43000 Kajang.

Utar’s Prof Wang Xinghua will share his expertise with participants on the benefits of TCM, its application to elderly daily life and its role in disease prevention.

Prof Wang obtained his PhD and Master’s degree in medicine from the Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine. He currently serves on Utar’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences under the Department of Chinese Medicine.

He has published more than 200 medical essays and has authored more than 20 books. Prof Wang also won the Henry Ying Tung Fok Education Foundation Award and the first prize of the International Traditional Medicine Medical Papers Award.

He believes that “retired elderly people rarely interact with others and therefore become lonely. Over time they develop psychological autism which affects their health.”

He also said that Alzheimer’s Disease and hypertension are the most common illnesses that affect the elderly. With that in mind, his talk will focus on the causes of diseases from the TCM viewpoint. He will also provide preventive measures to mitigate the risks involved.

“Pills are not a long-term remedy for curing ailments as they could damage your body. Hence, TCM provides a proactive approach towards prevention of ailments when applied over time,” he said.

Participants of the talk can also find out more about ACG’s Circles Enriched Living Programme which is beneficial to improving elderly health.

ACG is an organisation engaged in the business of elevating and providing aged care services in Malaysia.

Admission to the talk, which will be conducted in Mandarin, is free, but you should register fast as seats are limited.
